Autoimmune disease is a pathological condition that is caused by an immune response directed on a body part (its cells), which are confused with dangerous pathogens that have to be attacked.

This pathology is characterized by an abnormal, unexplained reaction of the immune system, that instead of defending the body from external attacks, damages some of its  parts or tissues  mistaking them with potential dangerous agents.

At the base there is a self-attacking mechanism.

The immune system can attack the blood cells, the skin, the muscles, the joints  and the tissues of the organs.

Among the vast number of auto-immune diseases, we have Crohn’s disease  (bleeding and inflammation of the gut), Rheumatoid arthritis  (involving the joints), Fibromyalgia (attacking the tendons, muscles and ligaments), Type 1 diabetes (that destroys pancreatic cells that produce insulin), Multiple Sclerosis (attacking the nervous system).

It is known that genetic and environmental factors are involved in the appearance of these pathologies.

It is also possible that  auto-immune diseases come from a combination  of factors.

Autoimmune diseases can manifest through non specific common symptoms as dizziness, general discomfort, bad mood and irritability, asthenia (tiredness), fever.

In other occasions, in relation to the autoimmune disease typology, clinical manifestation are very specific making it easier to diagnose.
