Biocompatible Prosthetics (fixed, mobile, aesthetic prosthesis)

Biocompatible prosthetics

The dental prosthesis is made by a team of qualified dental technicians, under the guidance of the dentist, to replace the original lost or compromised teeth, for functional or aesthetic reasons. The realization of these products requires a planning by the dentist, so that the result respects a series of requirements. Among these, the restoration of correct chewing and joint functions (opening, closing, left-right laterality, protrusion-retrusion and correct phonetics), resistance to chewing load. Particular attention is paid to isolation from saliva corrosion and harmlessness to the patient through the use of materials that respect maximum biocompatibility. It is important that the elements do not have "sharp corners" that could damage the tissues, and finally the aesthetics obtained by making the teeth as similar as possible to the natural ones so as not to alter the correct facial profile of the patient.

Since our facility has specialized in the most biological approach possible to prosthetics, even greater attention is paid to the choice of materials used, often also with the help of customized tests that can highlight any biocompatibility on the part of the patient.

Fixed or Mobile Prosthesis

The dentist fixes it to some teeth that act as pivot elements, with cementation and cannot be removed by the patient. These elements, when anchored on the tooth or portion of the tooth, are called crowns. When they rest on adjacent teeth (suitably filed) to restore a row of missing teeth, they are called bridges. If applied on implants inserted in the bone they are defined on implants.

Thus, they can be represented by bridges, where multiple teeth and crowns are missing if it is a single dental element.

In bridges, the extracted dental element is replaced by a prosthesis which also includes the adjacent dental elements, which are therefore reduced to abutments and also prosthetic. Pillar elements must have a number equal to or greater than the number of missing elements.

The term "mobile" refers to all prostheses suitable for replacing entire arches or parts of it. They are defined as furniture because they can be easily removed by the patient for cleaning during the day.

Partial or total prosthesis

It has the task of completely restoring masticatory functions where the teeth have failed.

When performing this prosthesis, the profile of the face (facial profile) must be respected. The support is in acrylic resin and the teeth used can be ceramic (little used), acrylic resin or composite.

With the teeth currently produced, excellent aesthetic results are obtained: the skill of the dental technician is fundamental and, in particular for the front teeth, he is able to give the prosthesis a natural appearance that is well suited to the patient's face and expressions.

If the amount of residual bone is sufficient, implant surgery can be used to increase the stability of the prosthesis inside the mouth. In this case, the dentist inserts implants with anchoring function in the bone.

The partial prosthesis, on the other hand, is anchored by means of hooks or precision attachments to the remaining teeth. When the partial prosthesis has a metal support structure, it is called skeletal or skeletal prosthesis and if mixed with precision attachments on pillar elements it is called combined.

It is also possible to make it skeleton type in acetal resin or heat-pressed without metal hooks. It can also be made with nylon and therefore without metal and with biocompatibility and flexibility characteristics.
